Burnout coaching for professionals and leaders

You're still functioning. But it's costing more than it used to.

Maybe you've known for a while that something isn't right. You're delivering - but the gap between what you're giving and what you have left is getting harder to ignore. You're holding it together with routine and willpower, and it's working, until one day it isn't.

Burnout doesn't happen to people who can't cope. It happens to people who have been coping too well, for too long, without stopping to ask what it's actually costing them.

Some of this might sound familiar

  • You're exhausted in a way that sleep doesn't fix

  • Concentrating on things that used to be easy now takes effort

  • You're more irritable than you want to be - and you notice it

  • Your body is registering something your mind is still negotiating: tension, disrupted sleep, a low hum of anxiety that doesn't switch off

  • You're present in your life, but not quite in it

  • You keep thinking: just get through this week

These aren't signs that you're weak or that something is fundamentally wrong with you. They're signals. And signals are worth listening to.

Burnout is rarely just about stress

What most people call burnout is usually the end of a longer process, not the beginning of one. Underneath the exhaustion, there's often something more: years of adapting to a workplace that didn't quite fit, delivering results that went unremarked, a role or a direction that made sense on paper but has slowly stopped feeling like yours.

That's not a personal failure. It's a pattern - and it has a structure that can be examined and worked with.

This is where my approach is different. I'm a certified coach and grief therapist, and I apply a grief framework to professional exhaustion and identity loss - because many of the professionals I work with are, in some sense, grieving: a version of themselves, a career path that hasn't delivered what it promised, years spent optimising for something that turned out not to fit. Burnout and grief are more connected than most people realise. Naming that connection is part of what makes this work go deeper.

How we work together

I use a clinically tested, evidence-based approach developed over more than 20 years - which works on three levels simultaneously:

Burnout recovery

We work directly with your nervous system to reduce exhaustion and restore physiological balance.

Burnout coaching

We examine what's driving your burnout, what patterns are keeping it in place, and what needs to change.

Knowledge and tools

You understand what's happened in your body and mind, and you leave with concrete skills to recognise and manage it going forward.

The programme runs across 7-8 sessions over 2-4 months, online via Zoom.

What you come away with

  • A clear understanding of your burnout - not just the symptoms, but the cause

  • Tools that work for how you specifically function

  • Better sleep, clearer thinking, more capacity to be present

  • The ability to recognise early signals before they become a crisis again

  • No ongoing dependence on me to stay well

A little about me

My name is Mette Hvied Lauesen. I'm a certified coach and trained grief therapist, and I work primarily with professionals and leaders dealing with stress, burnout, and the identity questions that often come with both.

I know what burnout feels like from the inside. It happened to me twice. And the only thing that actually helped was working with someone who understood what they were doing.

I'm not here to give you a quick fix or a set of generic tools. I'm here to help you understand what happened - and make sure it doesn't just happen again.

Questions about burnout coaching

How do I know this works?

The method is grounded in the COPESTRESS research programme and has been used clinically for over 20 years. You can read more about the research at stresscenteret.dk.

What does the programme look like in practice?

We start with a free, no-obligation introductory call to talk about you and your situation. If we decide to work together, we agree on session times and get started. The first four sessions are roughly a week apart. After that, they're spaced a little further. Between sessions, there's work to do - exercises, practices, new habits. That's part of what makes it effective.

Do I need to be signed off work to start?

No. You can start whether you're signed off or still working. The programme also works preventively - if you can feel yourself heading toward burnout, that's a good time to start.

What does it cost?

The full programme - including materials and up to 9 sessions - is 9,500 DKK including VAT (approximately EUR 1,275). Payment in instalments is possible.

I'm not sure whether this is burnout or something else. Does that matter?

Not at all. We'll figure it out together in our first conversation. Sometimes it's burnout, sometimes it's something adjacent - grief, a career that no longer fits, or a combination of all three. The introductory call is free and there's no commitment.
